I'm A Hoot!

I love this outfit on Rocco. He is very close to not fitting into some of the small outfits he has. I am looking forward to his doctor’s appointment on Tuesday to see how much he weights. My mom thinks he will be 10 pounds. I think she just might be right.

Today was a beautiful day outside. I took Rocco under the Magnolia tree for some fresh air. We also played ball with Max.

Long Legs Milazzo Is 3 Weeks Old Today

One of the many nicknames we already have for Rocco is “Rocco Long Legs Milazzo.” Today Rocco and I did our first walk with Max. We did a walk when Grandma was here, but today was just the three of us. Max did pretty well. He isn’t used to walking on the short leash and he will have to adjust to a new walking layout so I don’t have to go up and down curbs as much. Rocco was great during the walk and was tired and hungry when we got back. He is now taking a nap with a full belly. Actually Max is napping as well.

Here are some recent pictures of Grandma's first visit. Ellen Irwin was also in town so we were able to all have lunch together. A picture with Rocco and Me and one from today showing off his long legs.

Rub A Dub Dub In The Tub

Rocco had his first full bath today. His umbilacord fell off yesterday. Once that falls off you can give them a full bath rather than a sponge bath. He really enjoyed it and the warm water relaxed him.

He has already grown so much in these last 13 days. He doesn't like the tight swaddle anymore; he likes to have his hands out. He also likes to stretch out his legs nice and long. I have to make sure there is nothing he can push off of when we are feeding. I am curious how much he will weight at his 1 month appointment. I already see his fingers getting cubby and look at those cheeks.

Rocco Meets His Great Grandparents

Great Papa and Great Nana
We did our first road trip with Rocco to visit his great grandparents in Sacramento. Jared and I were really happy to show off Rocco to them. They have been waiting a long time for their first great grandchild, and today was the day they got to meet him. Jared is the oldest grandchild and Rocco will be the oldest of the great grandchildren. Rocco received lots of kiss from Great Nana and he soaked them all in.

Great Oma
Great Oma visited Rocco in the hospital. He is also the first great grandchild on the Milazzo side as well. Oma was all smiles when she was holding Rocco. We also have made a trip to her house for a second visit.

It is really important to Jared and I that Rocco meets his great grandparents. All my grandparents have past and it is the one thing that I get emotional about. I really wanted them to meet my little boy. But I am happy that my sisters kids got to enjoy many years with them. I am also blessed that Jared has three grandparents for Rocco to enjoy. Here are some family pictures.

1 Week Old and First Doctor’s Visit

Today Rocco is one week old. He also had his first doctor’s visit today. We were only 10 minutes late, not to bad for the first time out of the house. Rocco was born 8 pounds and when we left the hospital he was 7 pounds 7 ounces. He is back up to 8 as of today. The doctor was really impressed with this. He asked me if I was producing cream. I told him that I have been telling Rocco we need to make sure you gain weight so the doctor knows I am doing my job. We are a team I tell him.

The doctor also commented how good Rocco was. He didn’t make a peep. He was wide eyed looking out the window the whole time. So far he is really living up to his name. Rocco means rest in Italian.

The nurse commented on Jared. He was the one undressing and moving Rocco to get weighted and measured. She said most dads are the ones sitting in the chair and the mom does it all. Not this JaredBoy, he is a wonderful dad and loves to participate in all things Rocco. I got to sit in the chair. :)

Here are some pictures while we were waiting for the doctor to come in and and a little video clip of Rocco in action in the waiting room.

The First 48 Hours

So it is almost 48 hours since we have been home. The first night was good. I got sleep after every feeding and Rocco was on schedule. He for the most part has been going right back to sleep after feeding and sleeps until the next one. It sometimes takes me a whole hour to wake him up for the next feeding.

Last night was a different story. I think he was making up for lost feedings since he was sleeping so much. We were up from 11 till about 4:30 in the morning. He did three feedings within an hour of each other. He was a bit restless and wasn't in to sleeping but catching up on feedings. We finally went to bed around 5 and woke up around 7. He was up for a bit and is now catching up on some sleep.

When I was looking at him this morning, I really saw a lot of Jared in him. For the first few days, I saw a lot of me in him. He is smiling and frowning; has this thinking forehead look and likes to hold his lips shut really tight. He is making cute little sounds and the animals are trying to figure out what is making these noises.

Last night while he was up, I put him under his mobile in his crib. He was really following the animals and loves the music. The blanket he is on was made by Nancy Ahn. Here is a little video of this moment.

Rocco Jay Milazzo – February 3, 2009

I went in Monday night to get induced. We arrived at the hospital around 7:30 at night. They started a process called cervidil that would ripen the cervix. That needs to be in me for 12 hours so I was there Monday night just to sleep.

On Tuesday around 8 in the morning they started the pitocin. At that time I was a full 1 cm dilated. Can you believe it a full 1. They broke my water around 2 in the afternoon and I was a 3 or 4 cm dilated. After they broke my water I was able to feel what a real contraction was. It was painful and consistent. The contractions were coming about every 2 minutes. Just as I got my body to relax the next one came. I had the room dark with music playing. (Rush, the Sundays and Sade)

About hour and half into that I thought to myself, they have medicine to take this pain away, it is there for a reason and it is just fine to take it. I got the epidural shortly after that. It wasn’t a painful process at all. From there on out, I only saw the contractions on the monitor and didn’t feel a thing.

They continued to check me and I was dilating at a slow process. By 10:45 at night I was holding at 6 cm dilated. They recommended having a C-section. I was ok with this decision and decided it would be best to just get little Rocco out. I did have a bit of a break down after making this decision. It wasn't that I was nervous, but I think it was a change I wasn’t expecting. Jared talked me through the shakes and tears and then I was ready to go.

We came home Friday around 3:00. I was able to get out a day early. It is great to be at home. We have given him his first sponge bath and I love seeing him in his clothes.

Rocco was born at 11:29 PM, Tuesday, February 3, 2009. He was 8 pounds and 22 inches long. The average length is 20 inches, so he has some skinny long legs on him. I am looking forward to getting some meat on those legs.

He has had lots of visitors already and I enjoy watching everyone meet him and give him love.
